Cornerstone Offers Quality Education to Students with Special Needs

No two children are alike. While some fall inside and others outside the circle of what the world considers "normal", every unique child born into this world has special needs that are a part of his make-up and personality.

As a school that works closely with each individual, we are keenly aware of the special needs of each child. While one student may understand English easily, he may struggle with long division. Another may be able to clearly articulate an answer but have difficulty writing it down. One student may have a hard time doing the physical education activities, but be awesome in areas of technology. The one truth we have learned is that while strengths and weaknesses may come in different forms and degrees, all students possess special needs.

Cornerstone Christian Academy now has thirty-two students. Our board, administration and staff are thrilled because we view this as an opportunity to assist parents in giving a quality education to thirty-two young people who do possess special needs. It is so exciting to work one on one with these students because we find stimulation in using our creativity to strengthen the weaknesses and challenge the strengths.

Cornerstone Christian Academy/Preschool

Cornerstone Christian Academy has several of the cutest and sweetest Pre-Kindergarten Students!
What fun to watch them grow - to see their minds open to academics -and to share with them their first school friendships.

We love these little ones and hope to be able to minister to them through the years to come.

Non-Public Chartered Christian School in Cincinnati?

Cornerstone Christian Academy now has it's charter with the Ohio Department of Education. This means that we now will have access to some funds that will allow us to purchase materials to help with the education of our students. It also means that we can recover some administrative costs. Another benefit is that we can choose to accept or not accept vouchers for students who live in failing school districts near CCA. In addition to these benefits, it means that we have been observed and tested by the highest department in our state in the area of education. This is the result of much prayer and work but most of all the result of blessings from God on our school. Thank you for prayers and please continue to pray that we can hold the standards high academically and spiritually in the years to come.

New School Year Prayer

Tonight we had the first Parent Teacher Team Meeting of the new school year. It was so exciting to see the new children bonding while the parents met to discuss the business of the school. Cornerstone Christian Academy has wonderful families. Everything good that has happened and is happening is a blessing from God including the new families that He has sent our way. It is the prayer of the leadership of the school that everything that occurs in this school year, including the relational ups and downs that are a natural part of the school setting, will bring glory to Him.

Twenty Six Days!

There are twenty-six days left until school starts. Twenty-six days to order all materials. Twenty-six days to get the facility ready. Twenty-six days to enroll any new students, test them and make sure that they are ready to go!

Twenty-six busy, exciting days until we all come together again to learn and grow academically, spiritually and physically throughout another school year.

What Motivates a Teacher?

What motivates a teacher to get up each morning and face a class filled with little bodies of energy when her energy is just about spent? What makes a teacher plot and plan with new thoughts and ideas for her children when time and time again they just don't get it, or won't focus? What keeps a teacher dreaming of the success of a child in her class when sometime it seems like one step forward and two back? Its that moment - that light in the eye that says "I understand". Its that question that shows that he really is beginning to get the concept. Its the little note "You are the best teacher in the world" coming at the worst time.

A Christian School teacher has even more motivation. We know that we can make a difference not only in regard to the success of a child as he grows into the adult world, but we can make a difference for all eternity in the guidance we give. We also know that, if we are truly called to teach, and we fulfill that calling to the best of our ability, we will one day stand before the Creator of those children we have taught and hear the precious words, "WELL DONE". That is very rich motivation.

Letting Go and Letting God!

It is not easy to begin a Christian School. It is not easy to maintain a Christian School. Why?

First - There is nothing dearer to our hearts than our children and we really, truly care about what happens to them. Our ideas about how to educate our children - even as Christians - vary tremendously. Because it is such an emotional undertaking, it is easy to have disagreements, strife and discord even among a closely knit group of people.

Second - It takes a lot of ENERGY to do it and to do it well. As director and lead teacher this past year, I can tell you there are very few minutes in my life that I am not either teaching, leading, guiding or thinking about one of these things. I passionately beg God to help me do it better each day. I know that I, with God's help, can make not only an earthly difference but even an eternal difference in the lives of students and families who are a part of the school.

Third - As Christians we understand that life is not only what we see but that we are part of a spiritual world and we are engaged in real warfare against powers of darkness. Can you imagine how the ENEMY feels when we have the privilege on a daily basis to teach young people not only how to succeed in this world - how to become well educated, motivated men and women - but even more how to relate who they are to God the Creator and Sustainer? No wonder we feel that we are fighting against a powerful enemy. We are!

Last Thursday I went to meet my children and grandchildren at a county park. I thought I knew how to get to the park. After a few attempts - a few times of turning around and going the other direction - I found the park. The next thing to figure out was in which section of the park we were to meet. A few attempts later I saw them all and had lunch in the park. Of, course they were all finished and I had to eat alone, but at least I was there. After visiting for a while, my son came. We had an appointment to go to the computer store. I followed him and arrived without incident. Then I went to pick up my grandchildren for Bible School. Another wrong turn even though I really knew where I was going.

It was a day of wondering which way to turn in order to get to the desired destiny.

Life is like that. We know the end results that we hope to achieve but most of the time we face several choices and we have to pray for wisdom and discernment.

This could be the situation we face regarding the education of our child. We know that we want a good academic education with our child being challenged, guided, and inspired. We want our child to be encouraged to reach his human potential while learning to trust and rely on the God who created the universe.

Cornerstone Christian Academy could be the one school that you are looking for so look at all the options and seek wisdom for this great decision.

Not every school that wears the name Christian is truly Christian. If you are trying to determine whether a particular school is a Christian School or just a private school wearing the name and having a Bible Class, there are some questions you must ask.

1. Is every decision from the top administrative decisions to classroom discipline. made prayerfully with the principles of God's word as the guide? This would include the academic decisions for each individual child.

2. Can you sense the presence of God when you enter the classrooms and the different areas of the school building because of the attitudes of teachers and students?

3. Are students and faculty very comfortable talking about God and to God on a regular basis?

4. Is the Word of God read and loved by everyone in the school? Is it quoted when there is a question or issue that needs discernment and/or wisdom?

5. Do the faculty and students have a testimony of loving God and others?

Sacrificing to send your child to a private school that just wears the name Christian could prove to be a disappointing experience, but a truly Christian School will make a profound difference in the life of each student who attends, and will positively affect the family of that student as well.
